We check the resolver against the resolver and DNS against DNS but not
the resolver against DNS so if something is wrong in /etc/hosts we don't
catch it and nasty connection messages occur.
Also fix a problem where a bogus error message was being displayed because
we were trying to close an unconnected LDAP connection.

We lacked good error messages if the user/group container you used doesn't
exist.
Add a --continue option so things can continue if you use a bad user/group
container. This has the side-effect of letting you migrate just users or
groups by using a bad container for the one you don't want.
Fix a Gettext() error when displaying the migrated password message.

In ipa-replica-prepare a call to search_ext() was returning ldap.SUCCESS.
The search actually was fine and returned data but an exception was returned
and handled (though we didn't know what to do with it). This patch
lets it continue along.

Fix a logic problem in ldap2:get_schema() for determining if it
can fetch the schema or not. Normally we only want to do this for servers
but if you pass in your own connection it will use that.
This has been annoying for developers who switch back and forth. It will
still break v1 but at least going from v1 to v2 will work seemlessly.

We used to check for these one at a time so you'd run it once and find
out you're missing the bind package. Install that and run the installer
again and you'd discover you're missing bind-dyndb-ldap.

No SUDO rules are created by default by this patch.
This started with the client uninstaller returning a 1 when not installed.
There was no way to tell whether the uninstall failed or the client
simply wasn't installed which caused no end of grief with the installer.
This led to a lot of certmonger failures too, either trying to stop
tracking a non-existent cert or not handling an existing tracked
certificate.
I moved the certmonger code out of the installer and put it into the
client/server shared ipapython lib. It now tries a lot harder and smarter
to untrack a certificate.

We don't use certmonger to get certificates during installation because
of the chicken-and-egg problem. This means that the IPA web and ldap
certs aren't being tracked for renewal.
This requires some manual changes to the certmonger request files once
tracking has begun because it doesn't store a subject or principal template
when a cert is added via start-tracking.
This also required some changes to the cert command plugin to allow a
host to execute calls against its own service certs.

When making LDAP calls via api.Backend.ldap2 the ldap2 object will already
be locked by the api.finalize() call. So the first time that
api.Backend.ldap2.connect() is called an error would be thrown that
self.schema cannot be set because the object is ReadOnly. This uses the
documented procedure for working around this lock.
This was preventing the DNS installation to proceed.

Move the user-private group caching code out of the global config and
determine the value the first time it is needed.
Renamed global_init() back to get_schema() and make it take an optional
connection. This solves the problem of being able to do all operations
with a simple bind instead of GSSAPI.
Moved the global get_syntax() into a class method so that a schema
can be passed in.
If a schema wasn't loaded during the module import then it is loaded
when the connection is created (so we have the credntials needed for
binding).

are working. This breaks out some restart calls into separate steps
to show some amount of progress. There are still some steps that take

This patch:
- bumps up the minimum version of python-nss
- will initialize NSS with nodb if a CSR is loaded and it isn't already
init'd
- will shutdown NSS if initialized in the RPC subsystem so we use right db
- updated and added a few more tests
Relying more on NSS introduces a bit of a problem. For NSS to work you
need to have initialized a database (either a real one or no_db). But once
you've initialized one and want to use another you have to close down the
first one. I've added some code to nsslib.py to do just that. This could
potentially have some bad side-effects at some point, it works ok now.
I have to do some pretty low-level LDAP work to achieve this. Since
we can't read the key using our modlist generator won't work and lots of
tricks would be needed to use the LDAPUpdate object in any case.
I pulled usercertificate out of the global params and put into each
appropriate function because it makes no sense for service-disable.
This also adds a new variable, has_keytab, to service/host_show output.
This flag tells us whether there is a krbprincipalkey.
This started as an effort to display a more useful error message in the
Apache error log if retrieving the schema failed. I broadened the scope
a little to include limiting the output in the Apache error log
so errors are easier to find.
This adds a new configuration option, startup_traceback. Outside of
lite-server.py it is False by default so does not display the traceback
that lead to the StandardError being raised. This makes the mod_wsgi
error much easier to follow.
This uses a new 389-ds plugin, Managed Entries, to automatically create
a group entry when a user is created. The DNA plugin ensures that the
group has a gidNumber that matches the users uidNumber. When the user is
removed the group is automatically removed as well.
If the managed entries plugin is not available or if a specific, separate
range for gidNumber is passed in at install time then User-Private Groups
will not be configured.
The code checking for the Managed Entries plugin may be removed at some
point. This is there because this plugin is only available in a 389-ds
alpha release currently (1.2.6-a4).
Whenever we upgrade IPA such that any data incompatibilities might occur
then we need to bump the DATA_VERSION value so that data will not
replicate to other servers. The idea is that you can do an in-place
upgrade of each IPA server and the different versions own't pollute
each other with bad data.
This causes the installation to blow up badly otherwise.
To remove an existing instance run:
# pkiremove -pki_instance_root=/var/lib -pki_instance_name=pki-ca
This disables all but the ldapi listener in DS so it will be quiet when
we perform our upgrades. It is expected that any other clients that
also use ldapi will be shut down by other already (krb5 and dns).
Add ldapi as an option in ipaldap and add the beginning of pure offline
support (e.g. direct editing of LDIF files).
I couldn't put the dogtag rules into the spec file until we required
dogtag as a component. If it wasn't pre-loaded them the rules loading
would fail because types would be missing.
This is to make initial installation and testing easier.
Use the --no_hbac_allow option on the command-line to disable this when
doing an install.
To remove it from a running server do: ipa hbac-del allow_all
We have had a state file for quite some time that is used to return
the system to its pre-install state. We can use that to determine what
has been configured.
This patch:
- uses the state file to determine if dogtag was installed
- prevents someone from trying to re-install an installed server
- displays some output when uninstalling
- re-arranges the ipa_kpasswd installation so the state is properly saved
- removes pkiuser if it was added by the installer
- fetches and installs the CA on both masters and clients
The old perl DS code for detection didn't set this so was often confused
about port availability. We had to match their behavior so the installation
didn't blow up. They fixed this a while ago, this catches us up.
When using the dogtag CA we can control what the subject of an issued
certificate is regardless of what is in the CSR, we just use the CN value.
The selfsign CA does not have this capability. The subject format must
match the configured format or certificate requests are rejected.
The default format is CN=%s,O=IPA. certmonger by default issues requests
with just CN so all requests would fail if using the selfsign CA.
This subject base is stored in cn=ipaconfig so we can just fetch that
value in the enrollment process and pass it to certmonger to request
the right thing.
Note that this also fixes ipa-join to work with the new argument passing
mechanism.
- cache all interactive answers
- set non-interactive to True for the second run so nothing is asked
- convert boolean values that are read in
- require absolute paths for the external CA and signed cert files
- fix the invocation message for the second ipa-server-install run
We set a new port to be used with dogtag but IPA doesn't utilize it.
This also changes the way we determine which security database to use.
Rather than using whether api.env.home is set use api.env.in_tree.
Also print out a restart message after applying the custom subject.
It takes a while to restart dogtag and this lets the user know things
are moving forward.
This error could result in things not working properly but it should be
relatively easy to fix from the command-line. There is no point in
not installing at all due to this.
This creates a new role, replicaadmin, so a non-DM user can do
limited management of replication agreements.
Note that with cn=config if an unauthorized user performs a search
an error is not returned, no entries are returned. This makes it
difficult to determine if there are simply no replication agreements or
we aren't allowed to see them. Once the ipaldap.py module gets
replaced by ldap2 we can use Get Effective Rights to easily tell the
difference.
If the group exists but the user doesn't then useradd blows up
trying to create the user and group. So test to see if the group
exists and if it does pass along the -g argument to useradd.

A number of doc strings were not localized, wrap them in _().
Some messages were not localized, wrap them in _()
Fix a couple of failing tests:
The method name in RPC should not be unicode.
The doc attribute must use the .msg attribute for comparison.
Also clean up imports of _() The import should come from
ipalib or ipalib.text, not ugettext from request.
Traverse the objects passed to JSON for encoding and decoding.
When binary data is seen during encode replace the binary
data with a dict {'__base64__' : base64_encoding_of_binary_value}.
On decode if a dict is seen whose single key is '__base64__' replace
that dict with the base64 decoded value of the key's value.
certutil writes to the local directory when issuing a certificate.
Change to the security database directory when issuing the self-signed CA.
Also handle the case where a user is in a non-existent directory when doing
the install.
Also get rid of functions get_host_name(), get_realm_name() and
get_domain_name(). They used the old ipapython.config. Instead, use the
variables from api.env. We also change them to bootstrap() and
finalize() correctly.
Additionally, we add the dns_container_exists() function that will be
used in ipa-replica-prepare (next patch).
This moves code that does HTTP and HTTPS requests into a common library
that can be used by both the installer and the dogtag plugin.
These functions are not generic HTTP/S clients, they are designed
specifically to talk to dogtag, so use accordingly.
This error message was producing a warning from xgettext
because there were multiple substations in the string.
In some languages it may be necessary to reorder the
substitutions for a proper translation, this is only
possible if the substitutions use named values.
Remove SAFE_STRING_PATTERN, safe_string_re, needs_base64(),
wrap_binary_data(), unwrap_binary_data() from both instances
of ipautil.py. This code is no longer in use and the
SAFE_STRING_PATTERN regular expression string was causing xgettext
to abort because it wasn't a valid ASCII string.
NSS is going to disallow all SSL renegotiation by default. Because of
this we need to always use the agent port of the dogtag server which
always requires SSL client authentication. The end user port will
prompt for a certificate if required but will attempt to re-do the
handshake to make this happen which will fail with newer versions of NSS.
The fake_mname for now doesn't exists but is a feature that will be
added in the near future. Since any unknown arguments to bind-dyndb-ldap
are ignored, we are safe to use it now.
This will be handy in the future if we will want to install or uninstall
only single IPA components and want to append to the installation logs.
This will be used by the upcoming ipa-dns-install script.
Let the user, upon installation, set the certificate subject base
for the dogtag CA. Certificate requests will automatically be given
this subject base, regardless of what is in the CSR.
The selfsign plugin does not currently support this dynamic name
re-assignment and will reject any incoming requests that don't
conform to the subject base.
The certificate subject base is stored in cn=ipaconfig but it does
NOT dynamically update the configuration, for dogtag at least. The
file /var/lib/pki-ca/profiles/ca/caIPAserviceCert.cfg would need to
be updated and pki-cad restarted.
Need to add a few more places where the DN will not be automatically
normalized. The krb5 server expects a very specific format and normalizing
causes it to not work.
ldap2._generate_modlist now uses more sophisticated means to decide
when to use MOD_ADD+MOD_DELETE instead of MOD_REPLACE.
MOD_REPLACE is always used for single value attributes and never
for multi value.
This profile enables subject validation and ensures that the subject
that the CA issues is uniform. The client can only request a specific
CN, the rest of the subject is fixed.
This is the first step of allowing the subject to be set at
installation time.
Also fix 2 more issues related to the return results migration.
Also properly use the instance name where appropriate. There were a
couple of places where the service name was used and this worked because
they were the same.
We use kadmin.local to bootstrap the creation of the kerberos principals
for the IPA server machine: host, HTTP and ldap. This works fine and has
the side-effect of protecting the services from modification by an
admin (which would likely break the server).
Unfortunately this also means that the services can't be managed by useful
utilities such as certmonger. So we have to create them as "real" services
instead.
The pyOpenSSL PKCS#10 parser doesn't support attributes so we can't identify
requests with subject alt names.
Subject alt names are only allowed if:
- the host for the alt name exists in IPA
- if binding as host principal, the host is in the services managedBy attr
There are times where a caller will want to determine the course of
action based on the returncode instead of relying on it != 0.
This also lets the caller get the contents of stdout and stderr.
This policy should really be provided by dogtag. We don't want
to grant read/write access to everything dogtag can handle so we
change the context to cert_t instead. But we have to let dogtag
read/write that too hence this policy.
To top it off we can't load this policy unless dogtag is also loaded
so we insert it in the IPA installer
The CA was moved from residing in the DS NSS database into the Apache
database to support a self-signed CA certificate plugin. This was not
updated in the installer boilerplate.
The DS db wasn't getting a password set on it. Go ahead and set one.
In krb5 1.7 and later, the stash file (/var/kerberos/krb5kdc/.k5.$REALM
on Fedora) is created in the regular keytab format instead of the older
less-portable one. Based from comments and code in kt_file.c, here's a
change to try to recognize that case (the file starts with a magic
number) and read the master key from Python.
The KDC will still read either format, so I left the bits that set
things up on replicas alone (advice appreciated). The patch works as
expected on my 64-bit box, both on RHEL5 (krb5 1.6.1 with a traditional
stash file) and on Raw Hide (krb5 1.7 with a keytab).
I saw this with a host where I joined a host, obtained a host
principal, kinited to that principal, then deleted the host from the
IPA server. The ticket was still valid so Apache let it through but
it failed to bind to LDAP.
Installing a CA that is signed by another CA is a 2-step process. The first
step is to generate a CSR for the CA and the second step is to install
the certificate issued by the external CA. To avoid asking questions
over and over (and potentially getting different answers) the answers
are cached.
Using the client IP address was a rather poor mechanism for controlling
who could request certificates for whom. Instead the client machine will
bind using the host service principal and request the certificate.
In order to do this:
* the service will need to exist
* the machine needs to be in the certadmin rolegroup
* the host needs to be in the managedBy attribute of the service
It might look something like:

We want to only allow a machine to request a certificate for itself, not for
other machines. I've added a new taksgroup which will allow this.
The requesting IP is resolved and compared to the subject of the CSR to
determine if they are the same host. The same is done with the service
principal. Subject alt names are not queried yet.
This does not yet grant machines actual permission to request certificates
yet, that is still limited to the taskgroup request_certs.
We were seeing a rare deadlock of DS when creating the memberOf task because
one thread was adding memberOf in a postop while another was trying to
create an index and this was causing a PRLock deadlock.
We have to replace 05rfc2247.ldif because it contains some conflicting
attributes with DNS in some older versions of 389-DS/RHDS. This fails on
some newer versions of 389-DS/RHDS so this lets it continue installing
if the new file is not needed.
Password policy entries must be a child of the entry protected by this
ACI.
Also change the format of this because in DS it was stored as:
\n(target)\n so was base64-encoded when it was retrieved.
In order to run the tests you must put your DM password into
~/.ipa/.dmpw
Some tests are expected to generate errors. Don't let any ERROR
messages from the updater fool you, watch the pass/fail of the nosetests.
- The aci plugin didn't quite work with the new ldap2 backend.
- We already walk through the target part of the ACI syntax so skip that
in the regex altogether. This now lets us handle all current ACIs in IPA
(some used to be ignored/skipped)
- Add support for user groups so one can do v1-style delegation (group A
can write attributes x,y,z in group B). It is actually quite a lot more
flexible than that but you get the idea)
- Improve error messages in the aci library
- Add a bit of documentation to the aci plugin
This will create a host service principal and may create a host entry (for
admins). A keytab will be generated, by default in /etc/krb5.keytab
If no kerberos credentails are available then enrollment over LDAPS is used
if a password is provided.
This change requires that openldap be used as our C LDAP client. It is much
easier to do SSL using openldap than mozldap (no certdb required). Otherwise
we'd have to write a slew of extra code to create a temporary cert database,
import the CA cert, ...
External CA signing is a 2-step process. You first have to run the IPA
installer which will generate a CSR. You pass this CSR to your external
CA and get back a cert. You then pass this cert and the CA cert and
re-run the installer. The CSR is always written to /root/ipa.csr.
A run would look like:

This also abstracts out the RA backend plugin so the self-signed CA we
create can be used in a running server. This means that the cert plugin
can request certs (and nothing else). This should let us do online replica
creation.
To handle the self-signed CA the simple ca_serialno file now contains
additional data so we don't have overlapping serial numbers in replicas.
This isn't used yet. Currently the cert plugin will not work on self-signed
replicas.
One very important change for self-signed CAs is that the CA is no longer
held in the DS database. It is now in the Apache database.
Lots of general fixes were also made in ipaserver.install.certs including:
- better handling when multiple CA certificates are in a single file
- A temporary directory for request certs is not always created when the
class is instantiated (you have to call setup_cert_request())
If the DNS zones already exist but don't contain our own records, add
them. This patch introduces the ipalib.api into the installers. For now,
the code is still little messy. Later patches will abandon the way we
create zones now and use ipalib.api exclusively.
This patch adds options --forwarder and --no-forwarders. At least one of
them must be used if you are doing a setup with DNS server. They are
also mutually exclusive. The --forwarder option can be used more than
once to specify more servers. If the installer runs in interactive mode,
it will prompt the user if none of these option was given at the command
line.
This also adds a new option to the template system. If you include
eval(string) in a file that goes through the templater then the
string in the eval will be evaluated by the Python interpreter. This is
used so one can do $UIDSTART+1. If any errors occur during the evaluation
the original string is is returned, eval() and all so it is up to the
developer to make sure the evaluation passes.
The default value for uid and gid is now a random value between
1,000,000 and (2^31 - 1,000,000)
If you don't want to use ldapi then you can remove the ldap_uri setting
in /etc/ipa/default.conf. The default for the framework is to use
ldap://localhost:389/
We used to use certutil -O to determine the cert chain to trust. This
behavior changed in F-11 such that untrusted CAs are not displayed.
This is only used when we import PKCS#12 files so use pk12util -l to
display the list of certs and keys in the file to determine the nickname(s)
of the CAs to trust.

sha has been replaced by hashlib. We need to support Python 2.4 - 2.6 so
this will use hashlib if available but fall back onto sha if not.

The ipa-replica-install script will setup the DNS if user specifies the
--setup-dns option. It will only add the zone into LDAP if the
cn=dns,$SUFFIX container doesn't exist. For now, however, we do not add
the records.
This involves creating a new CA instance on the replica and using pkisilent
to create a clone of the master CA.
Also generally fixes IPA to work with the latest dogtag SVN tip. A lot of
changes to ports and configuration have been done recently.
Also moves delagation layout installation in dsinstance.
This is needed to allow us to set default membership in
other modules like bindinstance.

ldap2.find_entries now returns a tuple containing 2 values. First,
a list of entries (dn, entry_attrs), Second, the truncated flag. If
the truncated flag is True, search results hit a server limitation
and are incomplete.
This patch also removes decoding of non-string scalar python types into
unicode (they are left unchanged).
We were duplicating it for KrbInstance and DsInstance. Since we will
also need it for BindInstance as well, it will be better if it is in the
Service class instead.
If we use cn for hostname there is no easy way to distinguish between
a host and a hostgroup. So adding a fqdn attribute to be used to store
the hostname instead.
The first character in a line is used to determine how the line will be
quoted. If it begins with no quote we use '. If it begins with either
' or " we use that character. So if you have a quoted string and you don't
want it to be considered a comma-separated value put the other quote string
around the whole block.
Use the requestId we get back from the CA when requesting the RA agent cert
and use that to issue the certificate rather than hardcoding 7.
This also adds some clean-up of file permissions and leaking fds
Notes:
- will create a CA instance (pki-ca) if it doesn't exist
- maintains support for a self-signed CA
- A signing cert is still not created so Firefox autoconfig still won't work
Once this is committed we can start the process of renaming errors2 as errors.
I thought that combinig this into one commit would be more difficult to
review.
The CA is currently not automatically installed. You have to pass in the
--ca flag to install it.

- self-signed CA is still created and issues Apache and DS certs

Only the dn and the first line of any entry that was spread across
multiple lines were getting passed through the template engine.
If we are given a directory to process, sort the files in that directory
so the order can be predicted. Some updates rely on others.
This change depends on DS bugs 487574 and 487725. Groups cannot be
promoted properly without these fixed. It will fail with an
Object Class violation because gidNumber isn't set.
Loading this via LDIF is a temporary measure until we can load it online.
This requires removing the dNSRecord declarations from 05rfc2247.ldif
so a replacement copy is included for now.
Also add the netgroups container.
I have only tested the all, rpms and *clean targets directly.
install may work but the rpm moves a lot of things around for us.
The Apache configuration file isn't in its final state but it works
with the new mod_python configuration.
We need a way to say "this attribute is blank, delete it." delAttr does this.
There are now several attributes to which we add "members" to so make the
attribute for storing members configurable, defaulting to 'member'
