A 3D pick can report a grid index that is not valid for the view grid,
which read past the end of the local grids in release builds.

For nested hybrid grids, IJK range filters (I/J/K slices and IJK filters)
now refer exclusively to the original (coarse) grid IJK. Nested-grid local
IJK values are no longer offered, and every cell, including cells in all
refinement levels, is mapped to the original IJK of its top-most parent.
- Add RigNestedHybridGridLayout describing how original cells are embedded
in the flat grid, shared by the LGR reconstruction and the IJK mapping
- RigMainGrid: store the layout and compute the original IJK of any cell on
demand by following the parent cell chain, without per-cell storage
- Range filter UI: slider limits, clamping, defaults and active cell range
use the original grid dimensions; grid selection is hidden
- Evaluate range filters on all grids using the original IJK in the 3D view,
combined filters and data filters
- 3D view context menu slices use the original IJK of the picked cell
- Add unit tests for the layout, the IJK mapping against OLDIJK, and slice
filtering across refinement levels
RigConnectionContainer was a thin wrapper around std::vector<RigConnection> with no added value beyond push_back/reserve/remove_duplicates. Replace it everywhere with std::vector<RigConnection> and inline the remaining container-merge and deduplication logic at their single call sites.
* #14806 Faults: Compute unnamed fault faces in parallel and only from positive faces
- A negative I or J face is the positive face of the neighbor cell with a lower
index, and is already handled when that neighbor is processed. Only visit the
positive faces.
- Each cell only writes the fault index of its own positive faces and the
opposite faces of its neighbors, so process the cells in parallel. The
thread results are appended in thread order, so the fault faces keep the
same order as before.
* #14806 Faults: Add unit tests for parallel unnamed fault face computation
Build a small in-memory grid (no file, no view) with geometric faults at
every I interface, and verify that calculateFaults() finds all unnamed
fault faces, keeps them ordered by native cell index (the per-thread
results are appended in thread order), and separates faces touching an
inactive cell into the dedicated inactive fault face list.
Building the cell search tree was dominated by one small std::vector<int>
allocation per leaf, and a tree with one cell per leaf becomes very deep for
large grids.
- BoundingBoxTree: Store leaf ids in flat arrays, and move the input data
instead of copying it. The tree shape is unchanged. Queries no longer copy
the ids of each leaf.
- RigMainGrid: Always group at least 8 cells along K in each leaf.
findIntersectingCells() removes cells not intersecting the query bounding
box, so the result is the same set of cells as for a tree with one cell per
leaf. This also applies to very large grids, which previously got the
cells of the whole leaf.
- Include cells of nested LGRs and LGR cells in invalid main grid cells in
the grouped tree, as the previous tree with one cell per leaf did.
All unnamed critical regions map to the same implicit name, so a single process wide lock was shared by summary import, geometry generation, grid bounding box computation and NNC merging. Unrelated parallel loops therefore serialized against each other.
Give each region a critical_section_ name describing what it protects. The two regions guarding RifOpmCommonEclipseSummary::sm_createdEsmryFileCount deliberately share one name, as they protect the same counter.
Migrate all assert macros in ApplicationLibCode to CAF_ASSERT and remove every
use of cvfAssert.h.
CVF_ASSERT is replaced one to one. CVF_TIGHT_ASSERT is also replaced by
CAF_ASSERT, which is semantically exact: CVF_ENABLE_TIGHT_ASSERTS is 1 only
under _DEBUG, and that is what CAF_ASSERT now does. The two CVF_FAIL_MSG sites
become CAF_ASSERT( false && "message" ), preserving the message with the idiom
already used elsewhere in the code base.
Counts before and after: CVF_ASSERT 1044 to 0, CVF_TIGHT_ASSERT 66 to 0,
CVF_FAIL_MSG 2 to 0, cvfAssert.h references 154 to 0.
Include handling: files that included cvfAssert.h directly now include
cafAssert.h instead, includes left dead by the migration are removed, and files
that were relying on cvfAssert.h transitively get an explicit cafAssert.h. Files
that reach cafAssert.h through another caf header are left unchanged; a missing
include here is a compile error, not a silently disabled assert.
ResultStatisticsCache links only LibCore and therefore had no path to
cafAssert.h. Add the cafPdmCore directory as a private include path rather than
linking the library, since cafAssert.h is header only.
Note that this stops these asserts from firing in Release and RelWithDebInfo,
where CVF_ASSERT was previously active.
RigMainGrid::findIntersectingCells is const and lazily builds the mutable m_cellSearchTree without synchronization, yet it is called from many multi-threaded (OpenMP) query paths. When two threads race the isNull check, both build a new tree and the cvf::ref reassignment deletes the first tree while it is still being built, leading to a use-after-free and a segfault deep in AABBTree::buildTree (BoundingBox::addValid reading a dangling leaf box).
Serialize building of the cell search tree with a mutex, both in computeCachedData (which nulls and rebuilds the tree) and in the lazy build in findIntersectingCells. The query also keeps a local reference to the tree so it stays alive if another thread rebuilds m_cellSearchTree during the read-only intersection query.
The leaf-node cap that selects between the optimized and the
non-optimized cell search tree construction used cellCount(), which
only counts main grid cells and excludes LGR cells. The non-optimized
buildCellSearchTree() iterates totalCellCount() (main grid plus all LGR
cells) and creates one leaf per cell, so a grid with few main cells but
many LGR cells could be routed into that path and exhaust memory,
crashing while building the AABB tree.
Base the threshold on totalCellCount() so LGR-inflated grids are routed
to the optimized aggregating path and the leaf count stays bounded.
isFaceNormalsOutwards lazily computes whether cell face normals point outward
and caches the answer in m_isFaceNormalsOutwardsComputed. setFlipAxis was
mirroring the node coordinates without resetting that cache, so any consumer
that had triggered the lazy computation before the user toggled Flip X/Y kept
the pre-flip answer. The well-path/cell intersection in
RigEclipseWellLogExtractor::calculateIntersection then inverted the
entering/leaving flag the wrong way, causing the proper-pair filter in
populateReturnArrays to discard every intermediate cell along a perforation
interval - only the start and end cells survived through the
well-starts/ends-inside-a-cell fallback.
Reset m_isFaceNormalsOutwardsComputed when the flip state actually changes.
Add unit tests covering all four combinations of Flip X / Flip Y for both the
data-level node mirroring and the well-path/cell intersection (freshly-built
grid and interactive-toggle scenarios).
Migrate all callers to use type-safe ReservoirCellIndex and
ActiveCellIndex wrappers, then remove the deprecated isActive(size_t),
cellResultIndex(size_t), and setCellResultIndex(size_t, size_t) methods.
* Configures automated spell checking with codespell

This includes:
- A workflow for checking pull requests and preventing new typos
- A workflow for automatically fixing typos in the main codebase
- Configuration files for `codespell` to ignore specific terms and file types
- Documentation on how to use and configure the spell checking workflows.
* Corrects minor spelling and grammar errors.
This is a follow-up to the fix where the assert was removed in 9a71abd8af.
This fix will make sure that the search tree always is created when findIntersectingCells() is called.
Refactored RigGridBase::cellCornerVertices to return std::array<cvf::Vec3d, 8> by value instead of taking a reference to std::array as an output parameter. This change improves code readability and leverages modern C++ return value optimizations.
Updated all call sites across the codebase to reflect the new function signature.
* Update opm-common EGRID reader to support LGRs, NNCs, dual porosity, unit system info and time step filters
* Rearrange well reading code into separate class
* Update resdata library to not require an ecl_grid when reading well information. Only lgr names are needed, allows reused by opm_common reader
* Compute characteristic cell size based on active cells
* Compute cell face normal based on a suitable active cells
Using all cells as basis for face normal is fragile. Some models have highly distorted/twisted cells, but all active cells should be geometrically more stable.
In some models, the grid cells can be very twisted, distorted, or zero(low) volume. Improve the logic to find a reasonably regular cell and use this cell to compute the direction of the face normals in this cell.
Several optimizations based on profiling of 20M grid model. These fixes will improve the largest performance issues, but there are still more operations that can be refactored.
