This commit addresses an issue for sites where secure_uploads
is turned on after the site has been operating without it for
some time.
When uploads are linked when they are used inside a post,
we were setting the access_control_post_id unconditionally
if it was NULL to that post ID and secure_uploads was true.
However this causes issues if an upload has been used in a
few different places, especially if a post was previously
used in a PM and marked secure, so we end up with a case of
the upload using a public post for its access control, which
causes URLs to not use the /secure-uploads/ path in the post,
breaking things like image uploads.
We should only set the access_control_post_id if the post is the first time the
upload is referenced so it cannot hijack uploads from other places.
This fixes a timing issue where, if a user (or the CI) was
on a slow network connection, clicking one of the bookmark
menu options would cause an error because we hadn't yet received
the response from the server after creating the bookmark.
It should be very smooth most of the times because (paraphrasing j.jaffeux):
a) Most likely when user clicks it’s already saved
b) If it’s not saved when user clicks, it should already be almost done so
the perceived wait when click the reminder option should be rather short

The bulk actions menu for topics has multiple options to work
with tags on topics (append, replace, remove). Our tagging system
along with categories allows for some complicated tag restrictions
to be applied via tag groups. This was a problem for the topic bulk
actions because you couldn't append restricted tags to topics.
This commit allows restricted tags to be used in bulk tagging actions
as long as all selected topics are for a sole category. The category
information will be shown in the modal, and the category ID is used
for the tag search.
This modifier allows plugins to alter the outcome of
`should_secure_uploads?` on a Post record, for cases when
plugins need post-attached uploads to always be secure (or
not secure) in specific scenarios.
When choosing the "Custom..." option in the new bookmark
menu and then choosing a date + time in the modal for the
reminder, the bookmark icon on the post was not updating to
show the one with the clock to indicate the reminder.
This was just a data syncing issue between BookmarkFormData
and what the modal sets. Ideally all this would be refactored
because the data flow is messy...but hard to find time for
that right now.

This method name is a bit confusing; with_secure_uploads implies
it may return a block or something with the uploads of the post,
and has_secure_uploads implies that it's checking whether the post
is linked to any secure uploads.
should_secure_uploads? communicates the true intent of this method --
which is to say whether uploads attached to this post should be
secure or not.
Adds the new quick menu for bookmarking. When you bookmark
a post (chat message behaviour will come later) we show this new quick
menu and bookmark the item straight away.
You can then choose a reminder quick option, or choose Custom... to open
the old modal. If you click on an existing bookmark, we show the same quick menu
but with Edit and Delete options.
A later PR will introduce a new bookmark modal, but for now we
are using the old modal for Edit and Custom... options.
It's not really intentional to have regular admins change
this in all but pathological cases. It deletes all notifications
over this threshold for users without warning. If admins
really want to turn this on, they can do it via the app.yml file
Followup 0bbca318f2,
rather than making developers provide the plugin path
name (which may not always be the same depending on
dir names and git cloning etc) we can infer the plugin
dir from the caller in plugin_file_from_fixtures
This is so the CI output on GitHub actions isn't showing
tons and tons of unnecessary log data every time you want
to see the important thing, which is the actual test failure.
This allows plugins to also easily read fixture
files for tests, rather than having to do stuff
like this:
```
File.open(File.join(__dir__, "../../../fixtures/100x100.jpg"))
```
We are still making improvements to the admin sidebar and
various parts of the admin section. For now, to make the
transition easier, we are moving this link to the top of the
sidebar so it's clear that admins can still get to all settings
if they need to.
Followup 3094f32ff5,
this fixes an issue with the logic in this commit where
we were returning false if any of the conditionals here
were false, regardless of the type of `obj`, where we should
have only done this if `obj` was a `PostAction`, which lead
us to return false in cases where we were checking if the
user could edit their own post as anon.
This commit changes the API for registering the plugin config
page nav configuration from a server-side to a JS one;
there is no need for it to be server-side.
It also makes some changes to allow for 2 different ways of displaying
navigation for plugin pages, depending on complexity:
* TOP - This is the best mode for simple plugins without a lot of different
custom configuration pages, and it reuses the grey horizontal nav bar
already used for admins.
* SIDEBAR - This is better for more complex plugins; likely this won't
be used in the near future, but it's readily available if needed
There is a new AdminPluginConfigNavManager service too to manage which
plugin the admin is actively viewing, otherwise we would have trouble
hiding the main plugin nav for admins when viewing a single plugin.
This commit fixes an issue where the following happens:
1. You open /admin as a member of the admin_sidebar_enabled_groups
1. You then click the chat icon in the header when you prefer to have
drawer open, or if you just minimise chat into drawer after it opens
fullscreen
1. You lose the admin sidebar panel, and are reset instead to the main
panel
Also included is a bit of refactoring to make it so the forcing of
admin sidebar state is in one place.
This commit makes it so the site settings filter controls and
the list of settings input editors themselves can be used elsewhere
in the admin UI outside of /admin/site_settings
This allows us to provide more targeted groups of settings in different
UI areas where it makes sense to provide them, such as on plugin pages.
You could open a single page for a plugin where you can see information
about that plugin, change settings, and configure it with custom UIs
in the one place.
In future we will do this in "config areas" for other parts of the
admin UI.
This commit adds new plugin show routes (`/admin/plugins/:plugin_id`) as we move
towards every plugin having a consistent UI/landing page.
As part of this, we are introducing a consistent way for plugins
to show an inner sidebar in their config page, via a new plugin
API `register_admin_config_nav_routes`
This accepts an array of links with a label/text, and an
ember route. Once this commit is merged we can start the process
of conforming other plugins to follow this pattern, as well
as supporting a single-page version of this for simpler plugins
that don't require an inner sidebar.

This commit changes the wording of the 50 site settings that
previously had the shortest descriptions (e.g. City for Disputes
was described as City for Disputes...) using AI-generated and then
human curated descriptions based on the Forum Helper persona
on Discourse Meta.
In future we may want to do more of these, this is only a first pass.

When a post is created by an incoming email, we show
an envelope icon on it which then opens a modal with the
raw email contents. Previously this was staff (admin+mod)
only, but now this commit adds the `view_raw_email_allowed_groups`
site setting, so any group can be added to give users permission
to see this.
Before this change, if the "Plugins backend" task on GitHub CI
failed, we would get a huge amount of extra output at the end
just to show the command that rake ran which failed (the bin/turbo_rspec
command). This is useless and just makes it hard to see the failing
specs. If you need the full command, it's already output at the
top of the "Plugins backend" task in the GitHub CI.
It's February 29th, you know what that means...date-based flaky specs! If today is
February 29th 2024:
```
freeze_time(1.year.ago) -> Tue, 28 Feb 2023 01:38:42.732875000 UTC +00:00
```
Then
```
freeze_time(1.year.from_now) -> Wed, 28 Feb 2024 01:38:42.732875000 UTC +00:00
```
So then our "now" for the insert query ends up being "yesterday"
```
WHERE topic_hot_scores.topic_id IS NULL
AND topics.deleted_at IS NULL
AND topics.archetype <> :private_message
AND topics.created_at <= :now
```
When we send a bookmark reminder, there is an option to delete
the underlying bookmark. The Notification record stays around.
However, if you want to filter your notifications user menu
to only bookmark-based notifications, we were not showing unread
bookmark notifications for deleted bookmarks.
This commit fixes the issue _going forward_ by adding the
bookmarkable_id and bookmarkable_type to the Notification data,
so we can look up the underlying Post/Topic/Chat::Message
for a deleted bookmark and check user access in this way. Then,
it doesn't matter if the bookmark was deleted.
In rspec request specs, we do a huge verbose backtrace
when there is an error. However, 99% of the time you don't
care about pages and pages of activesupport/rspec gem
LOC in the backtrace...so this commit introduces an
env var RSPEC_EXCLUDE_GEMS_IN_BACKTRACE to allow for
turning this off.
In safe mode plugins are not loaded, so the plugin admin
routes are not loaded. This was causing errors in the
admin sidebar because we are trying to show links to the plugin
admin routes.
This fixes the issue by just not adding the plugin links if
we are in safe mode.
I was using adminPlugins instead of adminPlugins.index for the Installed Plugins
link in admin sidebar, which was causing Ember to highlight the main link and a plugin
link at the same time.
We only want to highlight the top level Installed Plugins link if we are on that page,
not if we are on e.g. the chat plugin admin route.
We have separated and combined modes for sidebar panels.
Separated means the panels show only their own sections,
combined means sections from all panels are shown.
The admin sidebar only shows its own panels, so it must set
the mode to separated; however when we navigate to chat or
home we must revert to the initial mode setttings.
When hiding/showing the sidebar, as is the case on mobile
and using the toggle in the top left on desktop, we delete
and recreate the ember component on the page. This causes
the `sections` for each sidebar panel to get re-evaluated
every time.
For the admin sidebar, this means that we were constantly
re-adding the plugin links to the sidebar, causing duplication.
This can be fixed by just adding @cached to the getter for
sections.
A while ago we increased group SMTP read and open timeouts
to address issues we were seeing with Gmail sometimes giving
really long timeouts for these values. The commit was:
3e639e4aa7
Now, we want to increase all SMTP read timeouts to 30s,
since the 5s is too low sometimes, and the ruby Net::SMTP
stdlib also defaults to 30s.
Also, we want to slightly tweak the group smtp email job
not to fail if the IncomingEmail log fails to create, or if
a ReadTimeout is encountered, to avoid retrying the job in sidekiq
again and sending the same email out.
This commit moves some code out of UploadController#show_secure
so it can be reused in other controllers if a secure upload
needs to have permission checks run.
This commit adds another plugin modifier related to post
actions, similar to ae24e04a5e.
This will be used to exclude users who liked _and_ reacted to
the post, since now in discourse-reactions we make a Like when
a user reacts too. This will affect the display of the post footer.
Followup to 978d52841a
It's complicated...we have multiple "anonymous" user concepts
in core, and even two classes called the exact same thing --
AnonymousUser.
The first case is Guardian::AnonymousUser, which is used for
people who are browsing the forum without being authenticated.
The second case is the model AnonymousUser, which is used when
a user is liking or posting anonymously via allow_anonymous_likes
or allow_anonymous_posting site settings.
We will untangle this naming nightmare later on...but for the
time being, only authenticated users who are pretending to be
anonymous should be able to like posts if allow_anonymous_likes
is on.
Reactions needs this to be able to filter out likes received
actions, where there is also an associated reaction, since
now most reactions also count as a like.
This commit changes `max_image_megapixels` to be used
as is without multiplying by 2 to give extra leway.
We found in reality this was just causing confusion
for admins, especially with the already permissive
40MP default.
When we show the links to installed plugins in the admin
sidebar (for plugins that have custom admin routes) we were
previously only doing this if you opened /admin, not if you
navigated there from the main forum. We should just always
preload this data if the user is admin.
This commit also changes `admin_sidebar_enabled_groups` to
not be sent to the client as part of ongoing efforts to
not check groups on the client, since not all a user's groups
may be serialized.
Removes duplication from LimitedEdit to see who can edit
posts, and also removes the old trust level setting check
since it's no longer necessary.
Also make it so staff can always edit since can_edit_post?
already has a staff escape hatch.
Followup fb087b7ff6
post_links_allowed_groups is an odd check tied to
unrestricted_link_posting? in PostGuardian, in that
it doesn't have an escape hatch for staff like most
of the rest of these group based settings.
It doesn't make sense to exclude admins or mods from
posting links, so just always allow them to avoid confusion.
Affects the following settings:
* whispers_allowed_groups
* anonymous_posting_allowed_groups
* personal_message_enabled_groups
* shared_drafts_allowed_groups
* here_mention_allowed_groups
* uploaded_avatars_allowed_groups
* ignore_allowed_groups
This turns off `client: true` for these group-based settings,
because there is no guarantee that the current user gets all
their group memberships serialized to the client. Better to check
server-side first.
Checking group permissions on the client does not work,
since not all groups are serialized to the client all
the time. We can check `uploaded_avatars_allowed_groups`
on the server side and serialize to the current user
instead.
There are some cases where staff (admins/mods) can
be in lower trust levels, so some of these checks will
fail for them. Since we want to keep allowing this (for now)
we should set most settings to also default to be allowed
for staff too, since the old `has_trust_level?` check
worked in this way.
We were having a minor issue with emails with embedded images
that had newlines in the alt string; for example:
```
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><img width="898"
height="498" style="width:9.3541in;height:5.1875in" id="Picture_x0020_5"
src="cid:image003.png@01DA4EBA.0400B610" alt="A screenshot of a computer
program
Description automatically generated"></span><span
style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
```
Once this was parsed and converted to markdown (or directly to HTML
in some cases), this caused an issue in the composer and the post
UI, where the markdown parser didn't know how to deal with this,
making the HTML show directly instead of showing an image.
The easiest way to deal with this is to just strip \n from image
alt and title attrs in the HTMLToMarkdown class.
Having the admin sidebar code in an instance initializer is not
ideal because:
* It runs during app boot which may not even be necessary based on site settings
* It makes it hard for plugins to register additional links in time without resorting
to before/after initializer gymnastics
This PR moves the admin sidebar into a lib and creates the panel
in custom-sections.js, then the sections and links are loaded when
the main sidebar component is rendered, which leaves plugins enough
time to add additional links in an initializer.

* FIX: Minor bookmark issues
* We were showing "missing %{name} value" when the name for the

* DEV: Test fix
This is a temporary fix to address an issue where the
system user is losing its automatic groups when the server
is running. If any auto groups are provided, and the user is
a system user, then we return true. The system user is admin,
moderator, and TL4, so they usually have all auto groups.
We can remove this when we get to the bottom of why the auto
groups are being deleted.
This commit makes it so the admin sidebar (when enabled)
will hide the other forum sidebar sections on mobile, the
same way it does on desktop. It was not happening automatically
because the sidebar component is also inside the hamburger-dropdown
component, which is used on mobile.
This commit adds some more links to the admin sidebar and
removes some to give it more parity with the old nav structure.
This also adds the `addAdminSidebarSectionLink` plugin API to
replace the admin-menu plugin outlet, which is used by plugins
like docker-manager to add links to the old admin nav.
Followup to be841e666e,
this commit does not show the themes/components list filter
if there are < 10 items in the list. This brings parity
with the search input, which does the same. If you only have
a few themes/components, then this extra UI is just unnecessary.

Fixes the migration in 8c6144d116
which was unconditionally enabling the new admin sidebar for admins
if they ever changed the old setting `enable_admin_sidebar_navigation`,
even if they changed it to false.
Merges the design experiment at
https://meta.discourse.org/t/post-quote-copy-to-clipboard-button-feedback/285376
into core.
This adds a new button by default to the menu that pops up when text is
selected in a post.
The normal Quote button that is shown when selecting text within a post
will open the composer with the quote markdown prefilled.
This new "Copy Quote" button copies the quote markdown directly to the
user’s clipboard. This is useful for when you want to copy the quote
elsewhere – to another topic or a chat message for instance – without
having to manually copy from the opened composer, which then has to be
dismissed afterwards. An example of quote markdown:
```
In this moment, I am euphoric.
```
Some plugins have names (e.g. discourse-x-yz) that
are totally different from what they are actually called,
and that causes issues when showing them in a sorted way
in the admin plugin list.
Now, we should use the setting category name from client.en.yml
if it exists, otherwise fall back to the name, for sorting.
This is what we do on the client to determine what text to
show for the plugin name as well.
This fixes an issue where any string for an enum site setting
(such as TrustLevelSetting) would be converted to an integer
if the default value for the enum was an integer. This is an
issue because things like "admin" and "staff" would get silently
converted to 0 which is "valid" because it's TrustLevel[0],
but it's unexpected behaviour. It's best to just let the site
setting validator catch this broken value.
Followup to b92993fcee
I ran out of time to get this working for that fix,
also here I am making the post.url method have parity
with post.shareUrl in JS, which omits the post number
for the first post.
When setting an old TL based site setting in the console e.g.:
SiteSetting.min_trust_level_to_allow_ignore = TrustLevel[3]
We will silently convert this to the corresponding Group::AUTO_GROUP. And vice-versa, when we read the value on the old setting, we will automatically get the lowest trust level corresponding to the lowest auto group for the new setting in the database.
This changes the Plugins link in the admin sidebar to
be a section instead, which then shows all enabled plugin
admin routes (which are custom routes some plugins e.g.
chat define).
This is done via adding some special preloaded data for
all controllers based on AdminController, and also specifically
on Admin::PluginsController, to have the routes loaded without
additional requests on page load.
We just use a cog for all the route icons for now...we don't
have anything better.
This is v0 of admin sidebar navigation, which moves
all of the top-level admin nav from the top of the page
into a sidebar. This is hidden behind a enable_admin_sidebar_navigation
site setting, and is opt-in for now.
This sidebar is dynamically shown whenever the user enters an
admin route in the UI, and is hidden and replaced with either
the:
* Main forum sidebar
* Chat sidebar
Depending on where they navigate to. For now, custom sections
are not supported in the admin sidebar.
This commit removes the experimental admin sidebar generation rake
task but keeps the experimental sidebar UI for now for further
testing; it just uses the real nav as the default now.
Some plugins have discourse- prefixed on their name
and some don't, so sorting in the list was inconsistent.

When rebaking and in various other places for posts, we
run through the uploads and call `update_secure_status` on
each of them.
However, if the secure status didn't change, we were still
calling S3 to change the ACL, which would have been a noop
in many cases and takes ~1 second per call, slowing things
down a lot.
Also, we didn't account for the s3_acls_enabled site setting
being false here, and in the specs doing an assertion
that `Discourse.store.update_ACL` is not called doesn't
work; `Discourse.store` isn't a singleton, it re-initializes
`FileStore::S3Store.new` every single time.
This commit ports the feature by @chapoi that was
previously a theme component in core.
A new post_menu button, copyLink, is added and used
as the default instead of share.
copyLink, on desktop, will copy the link of the post
to the user's clipboard and show a nice 'lil animation.
On mobile the native share menu will be shown.
If site owners want the old behaviour back, they just
need to change the post_menu site setting to use
the share button instead of copyLink.
I took the wrong approach here, need to rethink.

There will soon be additional login_required checks
for Guardian, and the intent of many checks by automated
systems is better fulfilled by using BasicUser, which
simulates a logged in TL0 forum user, rather than an
anon user.
In some cases the use of anon still makes sense (e.g.
anonymous_cache), and in that case the more explicit
`Guardian.anon_user` is used
It's quite confusing for blank? to be overridden
on AnonymousUser and BasicUser to represent
whether the fake user is authenticated or not;
we can achieve the same thing more clearly with
a wrapper GuardianUser class around these
user classes. Also fixes an issue where
`def user` would be returning nil.
Through internal discussion, it has become clear that
we need a conceptual Guardian user that bridges the
gap between anon users and a logged in forum user with
an absolute baseline level of access to public topics,
which can be used in cases where:
1. Automated systems are running which shouldn't see any
private data
1. A baseline level of user access is needed
In this case we are fixing the latter; when oneboxing a local
topic, and we are linking to a topic in another category from
the current one, we need to operate off a baseline level of
access, since not all users have access to the same categories,
and we don't want e.g. editing a post with an internal link to
expose sensitive internal information.

* Automatically remove the prefix `Discourse ` from all the plugin titles to avoid repetition
* Remove the :discourse_dev: icon from the author. Consider a "By Discourse" with no labels as official
* We add a `label` metadata to plugin.rb
* Only plugins made by us in `discourse` and `discourse-org` GitHub organizations will show these in the list
* Make the plugin author font size a little smaller

Also I added some validation and truncation for plugin metadata
parsing since currently you can put absolutely anything in there
and it will show on the plugin list.
When sending SMTP for group SMTP functionality, we
are running into timeouts for both read and open
when sending mail occassionally, which can cause issues
like the email only being sent to _some_ of the recipients
or to fail altogether.
The defaults of 5s are too low, so bumping them up to
the defaults of the `net-smtp` gem.
When we check upload security, one of the checks is to
run `access_control_post.with_secure_uploads?`. The problem
here is that the `topic` for the post could be deleted,
which would make the check return `nil` sometimes instead
of false because of safe navigation. We just need to be
more explicit.
Followup to 2443446e62
We introduced video placeholders which prevent preloading
metadata for videos in posts. The structure looks like this
in HTML when the post is cooked:
```
<div class="video-placeholder-container" data-video-src="http://some-url.com/video.mp4" dir="ltr" style="cursor: pointer;">
<div class="video-placeholder-wrapper">
<div class="video-placeholder-overlay">
<svg class="fa d-icon d-icon-play svg-icon svg-string" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg">
<use href="#play"></use>
</svg>
</div>
</div>
</div>
```
However, we did not update the code that links post uploads
to the post via UploadReference, so any videos uploaded since
this change are essentially dangling and liable to be deleted.
This also causes some uploads to be marked secure when they
shouldn't be, because they are not picked up and analysed in the
CookedPostProcessor flow.
