CategoryChooser component usually displays just categories, but
sometimes it can show two none values: a "no category" or Uncategorized.
This commit makes sure that these are rendered correctly.
The problem was that the "none" item was automatically inserted in the
list of options, but that should not always happen. Toggling option
`autoInsertNoneItem` requires setting `none` too.
Returned results are ordered by ID, but the fabricated category and
private_category IDs are not always generated in the same order. This
caused the expected and actual results to be in different orders.
Subcategories were not returned when lazy loaded categories are enabled.
This commit implements the old behavior which displayed only top level
categories when there was no search term, but when there was one, it
searched subcategories too.
This commit also removes the client-side ordering of categories, because
the results are already ordered on the server-side.
The uncategorized category was not rendered correctly and it was also
sometimes displayed twice. This commit is a similar bug fix to commit
76647d3a34 and is a follow up to commit
63a50b12fd.
Add categories to the serialized search results together with the topics
when lazy load categories is enabled. This is necessary in order for the
results to be rendered correctly and display the category information.
When "lazy load categories" is enabled, only the categories present in
the sidebar are preloaded. This is insufficient because the parent
categories are necessary too for the sidebar to be rendered properly.
This commit includes several changes to make hashtags work when "lazy
load categories" is enabled. The previous hashtag implementation use the
category colors CSS variables, but these are not defined when the site
setting is enabled because categories are no longer preloaded.
This commit implements two fundamental changes:
1. load colors together with the other hashtag information
2. load cooked hashtag data asynchronously
The first change is implemented by adding "colors" to the HashtagItem
model. It is a list because two colors are returned for subcategories:
the color of the parent category and subcategory.
The second change is implemented on the server-side in a new route
/hashtags/by-ids and on the client side by loading previously unseen
hashtags, generating the CSS on the fly and injecting it into the page.
There have been minimal changes outside of these two fundamental ones,
but a refactoring will be coming soon to reuse as much of the code
and maybe favor use of `style` rather than injecting CSS into the page,
which can lead to page rerenders and indefinite grow of the styles.
This fixes a bug where the sidebar categories would not be loaded when
the categories were lazy loaded because the sidebar uses the preloaded
category list, which was empty.
CategoryRow component uses allowUncategorized SelectKit option to
decide whether to show the "Uncategorized" category or not. This was
undefined which lead to "Uncategorized" category being always hidden
causing a minor visual glitch.
The old strategy used to load 25 categories at a time, including the
subcategories. The new strategy loads 20 parent categories and at most
5 subcategories for each parent category, for a maximum of 120
categories in total.
When navigating straight to a topic the category was not displayed at
all because the categories were not loaded. Similarly, the categories
for suggested topics were not loaded either.
This commit adds a list of categories to topic view model class and
serializer.
The query that is now a subquery could return a long list of category
IDs, which slowed down the query considerably. This improvement reduces
the execution time from over 2 seconds down to about 100ms.
The list of categories is loaded async when lazy_load_categories is
enabled, but there is no visual indication that the list of categories
is being loaded.
Categories will no longer be preloaded when `lazy_load_categories` is
enabled through PreloadStore.
Instead, the list of site categories will continue to be populated
by `Site.updateCategory` as more and more categories are being loaded
from different sources (topic lists, category selectors, etc).
The `style` variable is always set because every category has a color
defined, so the surrounding if statement is unnecessary.
"+ X categories" option has also been removed in the past and the code
related to it is now dead code.
This commit refactor CategoryList to remove usage of EmberObject,
hopefully make the code more readable and fixes various edge cases with
lazy loaded categories (third level subcategories not being visible,
subcategories not being visible on category page, requesting for more
pages even if the last one did not return any results, etc).
The problems have always been here, but were not visible because a lot
of the processing was handled by the server and then the result was
serialized. With more of these being moved to the client side for the
lazy category loading, the problems became more obvious.
When `lazy_load_categories` is enabled, the categories are no longer
preloaded in the `Site` object, but instead they are being requested
on a need basis.
The categories page still loaded all categories at once, which was not
ideal for sites with many categories because ti would take a lot of
time to build and parse the response.
This commit adds pagination to the categories page using the LoadMore
helper. As the user scrolls through the categories page, more categories
are requested from the server and appended to the page.

Commit dcd81d56c0 changed this, but that
implementation is not ideal because the initialization of the select kit
can result in requests to the server.
This implementation has the advantage that it also fixes the user and
group properties that return categories.
A lot of work has been put in the select kits used for selecting
categories: CategorySelector, CategoryChooser, CategoryDrop, however
they still do not work as expected when these selectors already have
values set, because the category were still looked up in the list of
categories stored on the client-side Categrories.list().
This PR fixes that by looking up the categories when the selector is
initialized. This required altering the /categories/find.json endpoint
to accept a list of IDs that need to be looked up. The API is called
using Category.asyncFindByIds on the client-side.
CategorySelector was also updated to receive a list of category IDs as
attribute, instead of the list of categories, because the list of
categories may have not been loaded.
During this development, I noticed that SiteCategorySerializer did not
serializer all fields (such as permission and notification_level)
which are not a property of category, but a property of the relationship
between users and categories. To make this more efficient, the
preload_user_fields! method was implemented that can be used to
preload these attributes for a user and a list of categories.
The modified test used to be the same as the test above. The bad test
was introduced in commit 77d4c4d8dc,
during a refactoring.
This was not a serious problem because the same behavior was still
tested partially by the other tests below.
These properties are set on the "Manage > Categories" group page. It
used to work, but only because it overridden the properties and it did
not update the IDs too.
The category drop was rerendered after every category async change
because it updated the categories list. This is not necessary and
categories can be referenced indirectly by ID instead.
The parent category needs to be serialized before the child category
because they are parsed in order. Otherwise the client will not build
the parent-child relationship correctly.
There was a registry for preloaded site categories and a new one has
been introduced recently for categories serialized through a
CategoryList.
Having two registries created a lot of friction for developers and this
commit merges them into a single one, providing a unified API.
Site data is preloaded on the first page load, which includes categories
data. For sites with many categories, site data takes a long time to
serialize and to transfer.
In the future, preloaded category data will be completely removed.
This commit introduces a new endpoint to search categories and uses it
instead of the categories map that is preloaded using SiteSerializer.
This feature is enabled only when the hidden site setting
lazy_load_categories is enabled and should be used only on sites with
many categories.
At this moment, this feature is under a site setting named
lazy_load_categories.
In the future, categories will no longer be preloaded through site data.
This commit add information about categories in topic list and ensures
that data is used to display topic list items.
Parent categories are serialized too because they are necessary to
render {{category-link}}.
Some sites have a large number of categories and fetching the category
IDs or category topic IDs just to build another query can take a long
time or resources (i.e. memory).
Some plugins call require_plugin with a wrong argument instead of the
plugin name. In a production environment that used to be a warning, but
there is no reason to keep it like that in a testing environment
because the issue will continue to be ignored.
Usually, when a user is promoted to TL2 two messages are sent. The
first one is a system message 'tl2_promotion_message' which triggers a
'system_message_sent' Discourse event.
When the event is fired and if Discourse Narrative Bot is enabled, then
a second message is sent to the recipient of the first message. The
recipients was determined by looking at the list of users that can
access that topic and pick the last one. This method does not work if
'site_contact_group_name' site setting is set because it adds the group
in the list of recipients.
A solution to this problem would have been to select the last user in
the list of 'topic_allowed_users', but an even better solution is to
pass the name of the recipients when the 'system_message_sent'
Discourse event is fired.
Privacy Policy and Terms of Service topics are no longer created by
default for communities that have not set a company name. For this
reason, some URLs were pointing to 404 page.
Legal topics, such as the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy topics
do not make sense if the entity creating the community is not a company.
These topics will be created and updated only when the company name is
present and deleted when it is not.
The welcome topic user tip was for admins only, but in general, user
tips should be used for guiding new users through the features that
Discourse offers. For this reason, we decided to remove the user tip.
This commit also includes a few more copy tweaks to the welcome topic.
The old method updated only existing records, without considering that
new tags might have been created or some tags might not exist anymore.
This was usually not a problem because the stats were also updated by
other code paths.
However, the ensure consistency job should be more solid and help when
other code paths fail or after importing data.
Also, update category tag stats too should happen when updating other
category stats as well.
Watched words were converted to regular expressions containing \W, which
handled only ASCII characters. Using [^[:word]] instead ensures that
UTF-8 characters are also handled correctly.

Large or broken images are removed from oneboxes, but sometimes images
were removed when they were oneboxed too. The reason is that images can
be oneboxed by the AllowlistedGenericOnebox or ImageOnebox and only
AllowlistedGenericOnebox was handled correctly.
The status should use the word "user" instead of "flag", for example
"approved user" instead of "approved flag". The problem was caused by
a mismatched type.
Invite only and Discourse connect could not be enabled at the same time
because of some legacy reason. This is a follow up commit to ce04db8,
355d51a and 40f6ceb.
The translation key is built using the name of the reviewable as it was
defined in Ruby. The chat plugin uses the `Chat` namespace and defines
`Chat::ReviewableMessage`. This was then transformed to
`chat::reviewable_message`, but it should be `chat_reviewable_message`
to resemble the other translation keys.
Sites with many categories and many of them in muted by default (see
`default_categories_muted`) reported bad performance when requesting
the homepage as an anonymous user. This was the case because of the
long query that iterated over topics and categories trying to remove
those from the muted categories.
This commit implements many changes to topic and comments embedding. It
deprecates the class_name field from EmbeddableHost and suggests using
the className parameter. discourse_username parameter has been
deprecated and it will fetch it from embedded site from the author or
discourse-username meta.

Regular users should be redirected to the homepage after the topic is
no longer accessible by them (only staff members can view deleted
topics). There was a problem with permission checking for category
moderators which stopped the redirect from happening.
Partial username or name matches were shown together with metadata
matched results. This created a bad user experience because results
that look unrelated were before even partial or exact group matches.
This commits adds a database migration to limit the user status to 100
characters, limits the user status in the UI and makes sure that the
emoji is valid.
