Windows 2012 Server changed procedure how KERB_VALIDATION_INFO ([MS-PAC]
section 2.5) is populated. Detailed description is available in [MS-KILE]
version 25.0 and above.
Refactor KERB_VALIDATION_INFO verification and ensure we filter out extra
SIDs in case they belong to our domain.

When using Global Catalog for resolving users and groups, one needs
to authenticate against Active Directory DC using GSSAPI. Obtaining
Kerberos ticket might fail. Make sure the failure message is actually
returned to the user so that decision can be made about the source
of issue.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3265
python-crypto package is not available everywhere, use m2crypto instead.
Originally we thought to extend python-krbV to provide krb5_c_encrypt()
wrapper but m2crypto is readily available.

Since trust-add re-establishes the trust every time it is run and all the other
information fetched from the remote domain controller stays the same, it
can be run multiple times. The only change would occur is update of
trust relationship credentials -- they are supposed to be updated
periodically by underlying infrastructure anyway.
A sequence is following:
1. Match external member against existing trusted domain
2. Find trusted domain's domain controller and preferred GC hosts
3. Fetch trusted domain account auth info
4. Set up ccache in /var/run/ipa_memcached/krb5cc_TD<domain> with principal ourdomain$@trusted.domain
5. Do LDAP SASL interactive bind using the ccache
6. Search for the member's SID
7. Decode SID
8. Replace external member name by SID
We don't use smbpasswd when configuring IPA for AD trusts anymore
because we switched to use Kerberos authentication in IPA passdb
backend based on CIFS service keytab.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3181
When long additional text should follow the error message, one can
supply instructions parameter to a class derived from PublicError.
This will cause following text added to the error message:
Additional instructions:
<additional text>
`instructions' optional parameter could be a list or anything that coerces
into unicode(). List entries will be joined with '\n'.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3167
Since use of winbind on FreeIPA server that is configured with trusts is
conflicting with krb5 locator based on winbind, use alternatives mechanism
to turn off the locator plugin by symlinking it to /dev/null.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3102
Since CIFS principal is generated by ipa-adtrust-install and is only
usable after setting CIFS configuration, there is no need to include it
into default setup.
This should fix upgrades from 2.2 to 3.0 where CIFS principal does not
exist by default.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3041
Establishing trust implies discovery of the trusted domain's domain controller via DNS.
If DNS discovery is not possible, NotFound exception is raised.
Intercept the exception and process it to help diagnose and fix actual problem:
- if IPA is managing DNS, suggest to make a forward for the domain's zone
- otherwise suggest to setup DNS forwarder at upstream DNS server
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3103
This strange patch is to accomodate both python-ldap 2.3 and later versions.
There was refactoring in python-ldap support for LDAP controls that split
base class into two different, changing properties and method signatures.
Luckily, we don't use any values passed to encodeControlValue.
Since we only can perform verification when AD admin credentials are available,
report that trust should be verified from the AD side in other cases,
including unsuccessful verification.
Once trust is added, status of it is never stored anywhere.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2763
The credentials of the admin user will be used to obtain Kerberos ticket before
configuring cross-realm trusts support and afterwards, to ensure that the
ticket contains MS-PAC information required to actually add a trust with Active
Directory domain via 'ipa trust-add --type=ad' command.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2852
With this change ipasam is able to ask for ipaNTHash generation and if
corresponding Kerberos key is available, will be able to retrieve generated ipaNTHash.
Part 1 of https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/3016
When developing and testing in the same environment, multiple re-installs
may be needed. This means previously issued and cached Kerberos credentials
will become invalid upon new install.
ipasam passdb module for Samba uses Kerberos authentication when talking to
IPA LDAP server. Obtained Kerberos credentials are cached during their lifetime.
However, the ccache is not removed automatically and if IPA setup is made
again, cached credentials are used, only to discover that they are invalid.
With this change invalid correctly obtained cached credentials are recognized
and, if LDAP SASL bind fails, new credentials are requested from the KDC.

Translate exceptions produced by DCERPC bindings when establishing trusts.
There are two types of errors that may be produced by DCERPC bindings:
- RuntimeError with a text (RuntimeError('NT_STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND')
- RuntimeError with a numeric code and 'friendly' message
Error codes could have two prefixes:
- NT error codes, start with NT_STATUS_ prefix
- Windows error codes, start with WERR_ prefix
Full list of errors is available in Samba source code:
libcli/util/ntstatus.h: NT_STATUS error codes
libcli/util/werror.h: Windows error codes
Majority of errors returned when dealing with trusts are of NT_STATUS type,
these also include all typical POSIX errors mapped to corresponding NT errors.
Unfortunately, in the textual RuntimeError case very little can be done to
get better clarification of the error. More error paths will need to be added
as they will be discovered -- DCERPC error messaging is complex.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2868
When setting up AD trusts support, ipa-adtrust-install utility
needs to be run as:
- root, for performing Samba configuration and using LDAPI/autobind
- kinit-ed IPA admin user, to ensure proper ACIs are granted to
fetch keytab
As result, we can get rid of Directory Manager credentials in ipa-adtrust-install
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2815
There are two problems in task naming in LDAP updates:
1. Randomness may be scarce in virtual machines
2. Random number is added to the time value rounded to a second
The second issue leads to values that may repeat themselves as time
only grows and random number is non-negative as well, so
t2+r2 can be equal to t1+t2 generated earlier.
Since task name is a DN, there is no strict requirement to use an integer value.
Instead, we generate an UUID and use its 60-bit time, 14-bit sequential number,
and attribute name.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2942
With c43505b621725c9a754f0ee98318d451b093f2ed in samba git master
the function sid_check_is_domain() was renamed to sid_check_is_our_sam().
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2929
Realm administrator account may be specified using different form:
Administrator, DOM\Administrator, Administrator@DOMAIN
This patch introduces handling of the second two forms:
- In DOM\Administrator only user name is used, short domain name
is then taken from a discovered record from the AD DC
- In Administrator@DOMAIN first DOMAIN is verified to be the same
as the domain we are establishing trust to, and then user name
is taken, together with short domain name taken from a discovered
record from the AD DC
Note that we do not support using to-be-trusted domain's trusted domains'
accounts to establish trust as there is basically zero chance to verify
that things will work with them. In addition, in order to establish trust
one needs to belong to Enterprise Admins group in AD or have specially
delegated permissions. These permissions are unlikely delegated to the
ones in already trusted domain.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2864
SASL bind callback due to refactoring was referencing local variable which
didn't exist all the time. Fix that by including a copy of service principals
into ipasam long term private struct.
Rework ccache handling to avoid re-initing every time callback is called
When using ipaExternalGroup/ipaExternalMember attributes it is
possible to add group members which don't exist in IPA database.
This is primarily is required for AD trusts support and therefore
validation is accepting only secure identifier (SID) format.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2664
We have two SID attributes, ipaNTSecurityIdentifier and ipaNTTrustedDomainSID.
First is used for recording SID of our users/groups, second is to store
SID of a remote trusted domain.
We should restart Directory Server when performing AD trusts configuration
to enable new CLDAP plugin and force KDC to notice MS PAC is now available.
Previously we only restarted KDC but if dirsrv is restarted, KDC will notice
its socket disappeared and will refresh itself
http://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2862
DCERPC code in AD trusts implementation depends on Samba 4 Python bindings.
Make this dependency optional for main freeipa-server package by moving
the dependency to freeipa-server-trust-ad subpackage.
Main interface to AD trusts (ipalib/plugins/trust.py) will still stay,
as well as LDIF files and updates as they are not causing real dependency.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2821
Commit a6e29f23f09ba5b6b6d362f7683ae8088bc0ba85 in Samba changed id mapping
API in passdb interface to use 'struct unixid'. The change replaced three arguments
(uid, gid, type) by one (struct unixid). As result, ipa-sam became broken.
Without this change ipa-sam introduces stack corruption in Samba post 4.0.0alpha18
leading to corrupted security context stack as well and then crashing in setgroups(3).
Also make sure all exceptions are captured when creating CIFS service
record. The one we care about is duplicate entry and we do nothing
in that case anyway.
Also make uniform use of action descriptors.
resolve_host() function returns a list of IP addresses. Handle it all rather
than expecting that there is a single address.
It wouldn't hurt to make a common function that takes --ip-address into account
when resolving host addresses and use it everywhere.
We want to always resolve TGS requests even if the user mistakenly sends a
request for a service ticket where the fqdn part contain upper case letters.
The actual implementation follows hints set by KDC. When AP_REQ is done, KDC
sets KRB5_FLAG_ALIAS_OK and we obey it when looking for principals on TGS requests.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1577
Samba just needs the cifs/ key on the ipa server. Configure samba to use a
different keytab file so that we do not risk samba commands (net, or similar)
to mess up the system keytab.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2168
We need two attributes in the ipaNTTrustedDomain objectclass to store different
kind of SID. Currently ipaNTSecurityIdentifier is used to store the Domain-SID
of the trusted domain. A second attribute is needed to store the SID for the
trusted domain user. Since it cannot be derived safely from other values and
since it does not make sense to create a separate object for the user a new
attribute is needed.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2191
inifile_replace_variables() works similar to config_replace_variables() but
allows to apply changes to specific section of an inifile. Inifiles are
commonly used by freedesktop.org software and particularly used by systemd.
When modifying inifile, all changes will be applied to specific section.
Also fixes corner case in config_replace_variables() which would dublicate
variables when adding them.
When multiple HBAC rules are defined, IPA default limits to retrieve
objects may limit the scope of HBAC testing. To allow full range of rules
to be tested support for --sizelimit option is added.
In addition, when --rules option is specified, make sure only those rules
are retrieved regardless total number of rules defined. This should also
speed up HBAC test performance for real life scenarios when few new rules
are added to large collection of rules.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/2230
FreeIPA SUDO rules use --usercat/--groupcat to specify that rule
applies to all users or groups. Thus, sudorule-add-runasuser and
sudorule-add-runasgroup accept specific groups and users and do not
accept ALL reserved word.
The patch validates user and group passed to these commands and
reports appropriate errors when these are ALL.

When discovering IPA LDAP servers through DNS records, look through all
servers found until first success. A master might be not available or
denied access but replica may succeed.
Ticket #1827https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1827
"Extending FreeIPA" is a developer guide of FreeIPA core framework.
Please make sure to improve the guide every time parts of the core framework
are affected by your changes. This document ideally should correspond to
the current state of the framework.
The Guide is written using Emacs Org Mode but can be edited with any
plain text editing tool. Emacs is only required to convert it to
distribution formats like HTML and TXT.
See guide/Makefile for building the guide and README for details of
the build environment.
When ``make client-install`` is called, create /etc/ipa and
/var/lib/ipa-client/sysrestore directories required for successful use of
ipa-client-install.
Do it only if DESTDIR is set to help packagers to notice that these
directories have to exist
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1849
We were spinning for socket connection if attempt to connect returned errno 111
(connection refused). However, it is not enough for local AF_UNIX sockets as
heavy applications might not be able to start yet and therefore the whole path
might be missing. So spin for errno 2 (no such file or directory) as well.
Partial fix for
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1990
Add documentation about --preserve-sssd, an ipa-client-install's option to
honor previously available SSSD configuration in case it is not possible to
merge it cleanly with the new one. In this case ipa-client-install will fail
and ask user to fix SSSD config before continuing.
Additional fix for
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1750https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1769
When certain features are being configured via authconfig, we need to
remember what was configured and what was the state before it so that
during uninstall we restore proper state of the services.
Mostly it affects sssd configuration with multiple domains but also
pre-existing LDAP and krb5 configurations.
This should fix following tickets:
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1750https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1769
systemd service unit for krb5kdc in Fedora 16 uses KRB5REALM variable of
/etc/sysconfig/krb5kdc to start krb5kdc for the default realm. Thus, we
need to make sure it is always existing and pointing to our realm.
Partial fix for:
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1192
backup_and_replace_hostname() was doing three things:
1. Given config file in 'key=value' style, replace value for a
specified key (HOSTNAME)
2. Backup original file and install a replacement
3. Restore original security context after editing
We have several more places where parts of the functionality are needed,
thus making two tools in ipapython.ipautil:
1. config_replace_variables(filepath, replacevars=dict(),
appendvars=dict())
Replaces or appends values to specified keys, adding new key=value
pairs if key was absent
2. backup_config_and_replace_variables(fstore, filepath,
replacevars=dict(),
appendvars=dict())
Backups config file and calls config_replace_variables()
A caller must handle security context after using these two tools.
In addition, as before, there is
ipapython.services.backup_and_replace_hostname() that uses
these common tools and restores security context after editing.
The code will be used extensively for systemd integration for Fedora 16.

https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1871
When users and hosts are included into groups indirectly, make sure that
during HBAC test e fill in all indirect groups properly into an HBAC request.
Also, if hosts provided for test are not specified fully, canonicalize them
using IPA domain.
This makes possible following requests:
ipa hbactest --user foobar --srchost vm-101 --host vm-101 --service sshd
Request to evaluate:
<user <name foobar groups [hbacusers,ipausers]>
service <name sshd groups []>
targethost <name vm-101.ipa.local groups []>
srchost <name vm-101.ipa.local groups []>

During ipa-client-install SSSD is not always started up properly for some
reason, things like "getent passwd admin" do not work. This is particulary
true for large setups where admin is included in a large set of groups.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1774
When running ipa-client-install on a system whose clock is not in sync
with the master, kinit fails and enrollment is aborted. Manual checking
of current time at the master and adjusting on the client-to-be is then
needed.
The patch tries to fetch SRV records for NTP servers of the domain we aim
to join and runs ntpdate to get time synchronized. If no SRV records are
found, sync with IPA server itself. If that fails, warn that time might
be not in sync with KDC.
https://fedorahosted.org/freeipa/ticket/1773
When setting up the client-side NTP configuration, make sure that /etc/ntp/step-tickers
point to IPA NTP server as well.
When restoring the client during ipa-client-install --uninstall, make sure NTP configuration
is fully restored and NTP service is disabled if it was disabled before the installation.

When external host is specified in HBAC rule, it needs to be added to
the set of source hosts this rule applies to. Add (list of external hosts)
explicitly when converting FreeIPA rules to PyHBAC objects.
Refactor FreeIPA code to allow abstracting all calls to external processes and
dependencies on modification of system-wide configuration. A platform provider
would give its own implementation of those methods and FreeIPA would use it
based on what's built in packaging process.
