Currently, virNetDevSetCoalesce() stub is always returning error. As
it's used by virNetDevTapCreateInBridgePort(), it essentially breaks
bridged networking if coalesce is not supported.
To make it work, relax the stub to trigger error only when its
coalesce argument is not NULL, otherwise report success.
- Make virMediatedDeviceNew() stub args match its prototype
- Fix typo: virRerportError -> virReportError
- Move MDEV_SYSFS_DEVICES definition out of the #ifdef __linux__ block
so we don't have to stub virMediatedDeviceGetSysfsPath()
Along with video and VNC support, bhyve has introduced USB tablet
support as an input device. This tablet is exposed to a guest
as a device on an XHCI controller.
At present, tablet is the only supported device on the XHCI controller
in bhyve, so to make things simple, it's allowed to only have a
single XHCI controller with a single tablet device.
In detail, this commit:
- Introduces a new capability bit for XHCI support in bhyve
- Adds an XHCI controller and tabled support with 1:1 mapping
between them
- Adds a couple of unit tests
There are a number of functions in bhyve_capabilities.c that probe
hypervisor capabilities by executing the bhyve(1) binary with the
specific device arugment, checking error message (if any) and setting
proper capability bit. As those are extremely similar, move this logic
into a helper function and convert existing functions to use that.
* Extract filling bhyve capabilities from virBhyveDomainCapsBuild()
into a new function virBhyveDomainCapsFill() to make testing
easier by not having to mock firmware directory listing and
hypervisor capabilities probing
* Also, just presence of the firmware files is not sufficient
to enable os.loader.supported, hypervisor should support UEFI
boot too
* Add tests to domaincapstest for the main caps possible flows:
- when UEFI bootrom is supported
- when video (fbus) is supported
- neither of above is supported
qemuMigrationResetTLS() does not initialize 'ret' by default,
so when it jumps to 'cleanup' on error, the 'ret' variable will be
uninitialized, which clang complains about.
Set it to '-1' by default.
Fix typo in virNetDevPFGetVF() stub:
ATTRUBUTE_UNUSED -> ATTRIBUTE_UNUSED.
While here, use common indent style for arguments in
virNetDevGetVirtualFunctionIndex() stub.
Introduce config file support for the bhyve driver. The only available
setting at present is 'firmware_dir' for specifying a directory with
UEFI firmware files.
Add bhyve support to virt-host-validate(1). It checks for the
essential kernel modules to be available so that user can actually
start VMs, have networking and console access.
It uses the kldnext(2)/kldstat(2) routines to retrieve modules list.
As bhyve is only available on FreeBSD and these routines were available
long before bhyve appeared, not adding any specific configure checks
for that.
Also, update tools/Makefile.am to add
virt-host-validate-$driver.[hc] to the build only if the
appropriate driver is enabled.
Even though scsi storage driver builds fine on non-Linux, it
will not work properly because it relies on Linux procfs, so
disable that in configure if we're not building for Linux.
Build fails with:

Fix by using intermediate variable to store the result similarly
to how it's done for other FromString* calls.
Recently e1000 NIC support was added to bhyve; implement that in
the bhyve driver:
- Add capability check by analyzing output of the 'bhyve -s 0,e1000'
command
- Modify bhyveBuildNetArgStr() to support e1000 and also pass
virConnectPtr so it could call bhyveDriverGetCaps() to check if this
NIC is supported
- Modify command parsing code to add support for e1000 and adjust tests
- Add net-e1000 test
Like it usually happens, I fixed one thing and broke another:
in 803966c76 address allocation was fixed for SATA disks, but
broke that for virtio disks, because it dropped disk address
assignment completely. It's not needed for SATA disks anymore,
but still needed for the virtio ones.
Bring that back and add a couple of tests to make sure it won't
happen again.
As bhyve for a long time didn't have a notion of the explicit SATA
controller and created a controller for each drive, the bhyve driver
in libvirt acted in a similar way and didn't care about the SATA
controllers and assigned PCI addresses to drives directly, as
the generated command will look like this anyway:
2:0,ahci-hd,somedisk.img
This no longer makes sense because:
1. After commit c07d1c1c4f it's not possible to assign
PCI addresses to disks
2. Bhyve now supports multiple disk drives for a controller,
so it's going away from 1:1 controller:disk mapping, so
the controller object starts to make more sense now
So, this patch does the following:
- Assign PCI address to SATA controllers (previously we didn't do this)
- Assign disk addresses instead of PCI addresses for disks. Now, when
building a bhyve command, we take PCI address not from the disk
itself but from its controller
- Assign addresses at XML parsing time using the
assignAddressesCallback. This is done mainly for being able to
verify address allocation via xml2xml tests
- Adjust existing bhyvexml2{xml,argv} tests to chase the new
address allocation
This patch is largely based on work of Fabian Freyer.
Add virBhyveDriverCreateXMLConf, a simple wrapper around
virDomainXMLOptionNew that makes it easier to pass bhyveConnPtr
as a private data for parser. It will be used later for device
address allocation at parsing time.
Update consumers to use it instead of direct calls to
virDomainXMLOptionNew.
As we now have proper callbacks connected for the tests, update
test files accordingly to include the automatically generated
PCI root controller.
When generating a domain XML from native command (i.e. via
the connectDomainXMLFromNative call), we should use
interface type 'bridge' rather than 'ethernet' because we only
support bridges at this point.
As we don't have bridge name explicitly specified on the command line,
just use 'virbr0' as a default.
macOS doesn't support clock_gettime(2), at least versions prior 10.12
(I didn't actually check 10.12 though). So, use its own routines in
eventtest.
* configure.ac: check for requires symbols and define
HAVE_MACH_CLOCK_ROUTINES if found
* tests/eventtest.c: add clock_get_time() based implementation
* virNetDevTapCreateInBridgePort() mock: free '*ifname' before
strdupping a hardoded value to it
* testCompareXMLToArgvFiles(): unref 'conn' object in cleanup
* testCompareXMLToArgvHelper(): free 'ldargs' and 'dmargs' in
cleanup
Current implementation uses the dev.cpu.0.freq sysctl that is
provided by the cpufreq(4) framework and returns the actual
CPU frequency. However, there are environments where it's not available,
e.g. when running nested in KVM. In this case fall back to hw.clockrate
that reports CPU frequency at the boot time.
Resolves (hopefully):
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1369964
Test 12 from objecteventtest (createXML add event) segaults on FreeBSD
with bus error.
At some point it calls testNodeDeviceDestroy() from the test driver. And
it fails when it tries to unlock the device in the "out:" label of this
function.
Unlocking fails because the previous step was a call to
virNodeDeviceObjRemove from conf/node_device_conf.c. This function
removes the given device from the device list and cleans up the object,
including destroying of its mutex. However, it does not nullify the pointer
that was given to it.
As a result, we end up in testNodeDeviceDestroy() here:
out:
if (obj)
virNodeDeviceObjUnlock(obj);
And instead of skipping this, we try to do Unlock and fail because of
malformed mutex.
Change virNodeDeviceObjRemove to use double pointer and set pointer to
NULL.
As bhyve currently doesn't use controller addressing and simply
uses 1 implicit controller for 1 disk device, the scheme looks the
following:
pci addrees -> (implicit controller) -> disk device
So in fact we identify disk devices by pci address of implicit
controller and just pass it this way to bhyve in a form:
-s pci_addr,ahci-(cd|hd),/path/to/disk
Therefore, we cannot use virDeviceInfoPCIAddressWanted() because it
does not expect that disk devices might need PCI address assignment.
As a result, if a disk was specified without address, it will not be
generated and domain will to start.
Until proper controller addressing is implemented in the bhyve
driver, force each disk to have PCI address generated if it was not
specified by user.
Commit 11567cf added some libxl tests into domaincapstest and
added libvirt_driver_libxl_impl.la to domaincapstest_LDADD.
This causes link fail on systems without GNU regex implementation:

Commit eee7bd4e introduced two functions: libxlDiskPathToID and
libxlDiskSectorSize.
However, as they're used only by code under #ifdef __linux__,
on non-Linux platforms it results in errors similar to this:

SYSFS_SYSTEM_PATH is only defined for Linux, however it's used outside
of #ifdef __linux__ code, e.g. as the first argument to
nodeCapsInitNUMAFake().
But as this argument's value is used on Linux only, it's safe to define
SYSFS_SYSTEM_PATH to "fake" to get things built on FreeBSD.
Commit 5ed235c6 added unnecessary redifinition of

Bhyve supports ACPI shutdown by issuing SIGTERM signal to a bhyve
process.
Add the bhyveDomainShutdown() function and virBhyveProcessShutdown()
helper function that just sends SIGTERM to VM's bhyve process. If
a guest supports ACPI shutdown then process will be terminated and
this event will be noticed by the bhyve monitor code that will handle
setting proper status and clean up VM's resources by calling
virBhyveProcessStop().
Current implementation of domainDestroy for bhyve calls
virProcessKillPainfully() for the bhyve process and then
executes "bhyvectl --destroy".
This is wrong for two reasons:
* bhyvectl --destroy alone is sufficient because it terminates
the process
* virProcessKillPainfully() first sends SIGTERM and after few
attempts sends SIGKILL. As SIGTERM triggers ACPI shutdown that
we're not interested in, it creates an unwanted side effect in
domainDestroy.
Also, destroy monitor only after "bhyvectl --destroy" command succeeded
to avoid a case when the command fails and domain remains running, but
not being monitored anymore.
Currently, if a connection URI was specified on the command line by the
'-c' switch, virsh connects to it, but after connecting overrides its
value with the one it tries to obtain from the VIRSH_DEFAULT_CONNECT_URI
environment variable.
This makes virsh connecting to the wrong URI if it disconnects from the
hypervisor and then tries to reconnect, and also leaks the original connname.
Fix by calling virGetEnvBlockSUID() before virshParseArgv().

The "if (vol->target.format != VIR_STORAGE_FILE_RAW)" check in the
createVol backend. This check is bogus because virStorageVolDefParseXML()
in conf/storage_conf.c sets target.format only if volOptions in
virStoragePoolTypeInfo has formatFromString set, and that's not the
case the zfs backend.
So the check always fails and breaks volume creation.
This reverts commit 6682d6219d.
The "if (vol->target.format != VIR_STORAGE_FILE_RAW)" check in the

ZFS-on-Linux implementation of ZFS starting with version 0.6.4
contains all the features we use. Additionally, as we support
'volmode' option handling that's not available on ZoL but is
available on FreeBSD, there is no need to block ZFS storage driver
on Linux anymore.
So un-mark zfs storage driver as FreeBSD-only.
There are slight differences in various ZFS implementations.
Specifically, ZFS on FreeBSD requires to set value of 'volmode'
option to 'dev' to expose volumes as raw disk device (that's what
we need) rather than geom provides, for example.
With ZFS on Linux, however, such option is not available and
volumes exposed like we need by default.
To make our implementation more flexible, only pass 'volmode'
when it's supported. Support is checked by parsing usage
information of the 'zfs get' command.
Make bhyveload respect boot order as specified by os.boot section of the

Commit 2b6f6ad introduced the virxdrdefs.h header with
common definitions to be included in the protocol files,
but logging/log_protocol.x was missed, so add it there as well.

Current monitor code overrides domain object's privateData, e.g.
in virBhyveProcessStart():

This is not right thing to do, so make bhyveMonitorPtr
a part of the bhyveDomainObjPrivate struct and change related code
accordingly.
