Richard W.M. Jones a5b1b1fa48 run.in: Include tools directory on $PATH.
You normally want to run the locally compiled copy of virsh. Trying
to run the installed version with the locally compiled library is a
recipe for problems with missing symbols and so on. By adding tools
to the path we can ensure that (eg) the libguestfs test suite will use
compatible copies of the library and virsh.

Richard W.M. Jones 4c10c38275 vmx: Expose VMware Managed Object Reference (moref) in XML.
If you use the VDDK library to access virtual machines remotely, you
really need to know the Managed Object Reference ("moref") of the VM.
This must be passed each time you connect to the API.

For example nbdkit's VDDK plugin requires a moref to be passed to
mount up a VM's disk remotely:

 nbdkit vddk user=root password=+/tmp/rootpw \
             server=esxi.example.com thumbprint=xx:xx:xx:... \
             vm=moref=2 \
             file="[datastore1] Fedora/Fedora.vmdk"

Getting the moref is a huge pain. To get some idea of what it is, why
it is needed, and how much trouble it is to get it, see:
https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/02/uniquely-identifying-virtual-machines-in-vsphere-and-vcloud-part-1-overview.html
https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2012/02/uniquely-identifying-virtual-machines-in-vsphere-and-vcloud-part-2-technical.html

However the moref is available conveniently in the internals of the
libvirt VMX driver. This patch exposes it as a custom XML element
using the same "vmware:" namespace which was previously used for the
datacenterpath (see libvirt commit 636a990587).

It appears in the XML like this:

<domain type='vmware' xmlns:vmware='http://libvirt.org/schemas/domain/vmware/1.0'>
  <name>Fedora</name>
...
  <vmware:datacenterpath>ha-datacenter</vmware:datacenterpath>
  <vmware:moref>2</vmware:moref>
</domain>

Note that the moref can appear as either a simple ID (for esx://
connections) or as a "vm-<ID>" (for vpx:// connections). It should be
treated by users as an opaque string.

Richard W.M. Jones 4c70a6f874 rpc: Allow up to 256K records to be returned per domain from virConnectGetAllDomainStats.
The number of records that virConnectGetAllDomainStats can return per
domain is currently limited to 4096. This is quite low -- for
example, a single guest with ~320 disks will hit this limit. This
increases the limit to make it much larger. Note that
VIR_NET_MESSAGE_MAX still protects the total message size in the case
where there are many domains and many disks per domain.

I tested this using a guest with 500 disks with no issues.

Richard W.M. Jones b088f85d42 rpc: Double buffer size instead of quadrupling buffer size.
When increasing the buffer size up to VIR_NET_MESSAGE_MAX, we
currently quadruple it each time. This unfortunately means that we
cannot allow certain buffer sizes -- for example the current
VIR_NET_MESSAGE_MAX == 33554432 can never be "hit" since ‘newlen’
jumps from 16MB to 64MB.

Instead of quadrupling, double it each time.

Richard W.M. Jones beaa447a29 Add functions for handling exponential backoff loops.
In a few places in libvirt we busy-wait for events, for example qemu
creating a monitor socket. This is problematic because:

 - We need to choose a sufficiently small polling period so that
   libvirt doesn't add unnecessary delays.

 - We need to choose a sufficiently large polling period so that
   the effect of busy-waiting doesn't affect the system.

The solution to this conflict is to use an exponential backoff.

This patch adds two functions to hide the details, and modifies a few
places where we currently busy-wait.

Richard W.M. Jones ed8155eafb Document that virNodeGetInfo can return mhz == 0.
On the s/390x architecture, libvirt may already return 0 in the
node_info->mhz field (see src/nodeinfo.c:linuxNodeInfoCPUPopulate).

We may also want to return this on aarch64 in future, because
calculating the proper value requires SMBIOS, which is not available
on non-server-class systems (specifically on systems which don't
adhere to the SBSA standard).

Therefore this change documents the existing behaviour and provides a
valid path for aarch64.

Richard W.M. Jones e093351209 test driver: Add authentication to test driver.
There is no easy way to test authentication against libvirt. This
commit modifies the test driver to allow simple username/password
authentication.

You modify the test XML by adding:

 <node>
   ...
   <auth>
     <user password="123456">rich</user>
     <user>jane</user>
   </auth>
 </node>

If there are any /node/auth/user elements, then authentication is
required by the test driver (if none are present, then the test driver
will work as before and not require authentication).

In the example above, two phony users are added:

 rich  password: 123456
 jane  no password required

The test driver will demand a username. If the password attribute is
present (or if the username entered is wrong), then the password is
also asked for and checked:

 $ virsh -c test://$(pwd)/testnode.xml list
 Enter username for localhost: rich
 Enter rich's password for localhost: ***

Richard W.M. Jones 5090c576e3 Add a ./run script for running programs from the local directory.
With this script you can run libvirt programs without needing to
install them first. You just have to do for example:

  ./run ./tools/virsh [args ...]

If you are already in the tools/ subdirectory, then the following
command will also work:

  ../run ./virsh [...]

You can also run the C programs under valgrind like this:

  ./run valgrind [valgrind opts...] ./program

or under gdb:

  ./run gdb --args ./program

This also works with sudo (eg. if you need root access for libvirt):

  sudo ./run ./tools/virsh list --all

Derived from libguestfs and simplified. The ./run script in
libguestfs is much more sophisticated:

Skip IB700 when assigning PCI slots.

Note: the I6300ESB watchdog _is_ a PCI device.

To test this: I applied this patch to libvirt-0.8.3-2.fc14 (rebasing
it slightly: qemu_command.c didn't exist in that version) and
installed this on my machine, then tested that I could successfully
add an ib700 watchdog device to a guest, start the guest, and the
ib700 was available to the guest. I also added an i6300esb (PCI)
watchdog to another guest, and verified that libvirt assigned a PCI
device to it, that the guest could be started, and that i6300esb was
present in the guest.

Note that if you previously had a domain with a ib700 watchdog, it
would have had an <address type='pci' .../> clause added to it in the
libvirt configuration. This patch does not attempt to remove this.
You cannot start such a domain -- qemu gives an error if you try.
With this patch you are able to remove the bogus address element
without libvirt adding it back.

Richard Jones f4a43df52b Ignore SIGWINCH in remote client call to poll(2) (RHBZ#567931).
In bug 567931 we found that virt-top would exit occasionally
when the terminal window was resized. Tracking this down it
turned out that SIGWINCH was being delivered to the process at
exactly the point where the libvirt remote driver was calling
poll(2) waiting for a reply from libvirtd.

This caused the poll(2) call to be interrupted (returning errno
EINTR). However handling EINTR the same way as EAGAIN was not
the solution to this problem since we found previously that this
would break Ctrl-C handling (commit 47fec8eac2).

The correct solution is to mask out SIGWINCH for the duration
of the poll(2) system call. The per-thread mask is changed and
restored immediately after the call. Since we are using
pthread_sigmask, this should not affect other threads, and
since we restore the signal mask immediately afterwards it should
not affect the current thread visibly either. Other possibly
problematic signals are SIGCHLD and SIGPIPE and these are
masked too.

Note use of ignore_value: It's not fatal if we cannot mask out
SIGWINCH, and in any case pthread_sigmask never fails on Linux
as long as you supply the correct arguments.

I tested this patch and it cures the original problem with
virt-top.
