The ordering of lock manager locks in the libxl driver has a flaw that was
uncovered by a migration error path. In the perform phase of migration, the
source host calls virDomainLockProcessPause to release the lock before
sending the VM to the destination host. If the send fails an attempt is made
to reacquire the lock with virDomainLockProcessResume, but that too can fail
if the destination host has not finished cleaning up the failed VM and
releasing the lock it acquired when starting to receive the VM.
This change delays calling virDomainLockProcessResume in libxlDomainStart
until the VM is successfully created, but before it is unpaused. A similar
approach is used by the qemu driver, avoiding the need to release the lock
if VM creation fails. In the migration perform phase, releasing the lock
with virDomainLockProcessPause is delayed until the VM is successfully
sent to the destination, which avoids reacquiring the lock if the send
fails.

Some VM configurations may result in a large number of threads created by
the associated qemu process which can exceed the system default limit. The
maximum number of threads allowed per process is controlled by the pids
cgroup controller and is set to 16k when creating VMs with systemd's
machined service. The maximum number of threads per process is recorded
in the pids.max file under the machine's pids controller cgroup hierarchy,
e.g.
$cgrp-mnt/pids/machine.slice/machine-qemu\\x2d1\\x2dtest.scope/pids.max
Maximum threads per process is controlled with the TasksMax property of
the systemd scope for the machine. This patch adds an option to qemu.conf
which can be used to override the maximum number of threads allowed per

Commit a3ab6d42 changed the libvirtd profile to a named profile,
breaking the apparmor driver's ability to detect if the profile is
active. When the apparmor driver loads it checks the status of the
libvirtd profile using the full binary path, which fails since the
profile is now referenced by name. If the apparmor driver is
explicitly requested in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf, then libvirtd fails
to load too.
Instead of only checking the profile status by full binary path,

Long ago in commit dfa1e1dd53 the scheduler weight was accidentally
hardcoded to 1000. Weight is a setting with no unit since it is
relative to the weight of other domains. If no weight is specified,
libxl defaults to 256.
Instead of hardcoding the weight to 1000, honor any <shares> specified
in <cputune>. libvirt's notion of shares is synonomous to libxl's
scheduler weight setting. If shares is unspecified, defer default
weight setting to libxl.
Removing the hardcoded weight required some test fixup. While at it,
add an explicit test for <shares> conversion to scheduler weight.

Since the reload occurs in the context of the main event loop thread,

libxl supports setting the domain real time clock to local time or
UTC via the localtime field of libxl_domain_build_info. Adjustment
of the clock is also supported via the rtc_timeoffset field. The
libvirt libxl driver has never supported these settings, instead
relying on libxl's default of a UTC real time clock with adjustment
set to 0.
There is at least one user that would like the ability to change
the defaults
https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvirt-users/2018-February/msg00059.html
Add support for specifying a local time clock and for specifying an
adjustment for both local time and UTC clocks. Add a test case to
verify the XML to libxl_domain_config conversion.
Local time clock and clock adjustment is already supported by the
XML <-> xl.cfg converter. What is missing is an explicit test for
the conversion. There are plenty of existing tests that all use UTC
with 0 adjustment. Hijack test-fullvirt-tsc-timer to test a local
time clock with 1 hour adjustment.

The perform phase itself can fail, in which case the lock process
should be resumed before returning from perform. The finish phase

is canceled in the confirm phase and the VM is resumed. The lock
process needs to be resumed there as well.

Commit 8708ca01c added virNetDevSwitchdevFeature() to check if a network
device has Switchdev capabilities. virNetDevSwitchdevFeature() attempts
to retrieve the PCI device associated with the network device, ignoring
non-PCI devices. It does so via the following call chain
virNetDevSwitchdevFeature()->virNetDevGetPCIDevice()->
virPCIGetDeviceAddressFromSysfsLink()
For non-PCI network devices (qeth, Xen vif, etc),
virPCIGetDeviceAddressFromSysfsLink() will report an error when
virPCIDeviceAddressParse() fails. virPCIDeviceAddressParse() also
logs an error. After commit 8708ca01c there are now two errors reported
for each non-PCI network device even though the errors are harmless.
To avoid the errors, introduce virNetDevIsPCIDevice() and use it in
virNetDevGetPCIDevice() before attempting to retrieve the associated
PCI device. virNetDevIsPCIDevice() uses the 'subsystem' property of the
device to determine if it is PCI. See the sysfs rules in kernel
documentation for more details
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/sysfs-rules.html
The list_guests function in libvirt-guests uses 'grep -v' to filter
Xen domain0 from a list of guests. If domain0 is the only item in

when action is 'suspend'. Improve the filtering by using sed to remove
domain0 from the list of guests.
