This should not be needed, but here's what's happening: virStrToLong_*() family of functions was switched from strtol*() to g_ascii_strtol*() in order to handle corner cases on Windows (most notably parsing hex numbers with base=0) - see v9.4.0-61-g2ed41d7cd9. But what we did not realize back then, is the fact that g_ascii_strtol*() family has their own global lock rendering virStrToLong_*() function unsafe between fork() + exec(). Worse, if one of the threads has to wait for the lock (or on its corresponding condition), then errno is mangled and g_ascii_strtol*() signals an error, even though there's no error. Read more here: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/-/issues/3034 Nevertheless, if we make glib init the g_ascii_strtol*() global state (by calling one function from g_ascii_strtol*() family), then there shouldn't be any congestion on the lock and thus no errno mangling. Libvirt API for virtualization
==============================
Libvirt provides a portable, long term stable C API for managing the
virtualization technologies provided by many operating systems. It
includes support for QEMU, KVM, Xen, LXC, bhyve, Virtuozzo, VMware
vCenter and ESX, VMware Desktop, Hyper-V, VirtualBox and the POWER
Hypervisor.
For some of these hypervisors, it provides a stateful management
daemon which runs on the virtualization host allowing access to the
API both by non-privileged local users and remote users.
Layered packages provide bindings of the libvirt C API into other
languages including Python, Perl, PHP, Go, Java, OCaml, as well as
mappings into object systems such as GObject, CIM and SNMP.
