Local socket connections were outright disabled because there was no "server" part in the URI. However, given how requirements and usage scenarios are evolving, some management apps might need the source libvirt daemon to connect to the destination daemon over a UNIX socket for peer2peer migration. Since we cannot know where the socket leads (whether the same daemon or not) let's decide that based on whether the socket path is non-standard, or rather explicitly specified in the URI. Checking non-standard path would require to ask the daemon for configuration and the only misuse that it would prevent would be a pretty weird one. And that's not worth it. The assumption is that whenever someone uses explicit UNIX socket paths in the URI for migration they better know what they are doing. Libvirt API for virtualization
==============================
Libvirt provides a portable, long term stable C API for managing the
virtualization technologies provided by many operating systems. It
includes support for QEMU, KVM, Xen, LXC, bhyve, Virtuozzo, VMware
vCenter and ESX, VMware Desktop, Hyper-V, VirtualBox and the POWER
Hypervisor.
For some of these hypervisors, it provides a stateful management
daemon which runs on the virtualization host allowing access to the
API both by non-privileged local users and remote users.
Layered packages provide bindings of the libvirt C API into other
languages including Python, Perl, PHP, Go, Java, OCaml, as well as
mappings into object systems such as GObject, CIM and SNMP.

The libvirt C API is distributed under the terms of GNU Lesser General
Public License, version 2.1 (or later). Some parts of the code that are
